Ryder Named for Fourth Consecutive Year to List of Best Third Party Logistics and Cold Storage Providers for Food Industry
MIAMI–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a leader in supply chain, warehousing, and transportation management solutions, today announced it has been included in Food Logistics’ sixth annual listing of the Top 100 3PLs, the leading third-party logistics providers and cold storage providers for the food industry. Selected for the fourth consecutive year, Ryder’s inclusion in the list reflects the company’s expertise in helping food companies achieve best-in-class execution of their supply chains.
“Food distribution is a very complex business, and 3PLs play a crucial role in the supply chain,” explains Katherine Doherty, editor-in-chief of Food Logistics magazine. “While most 3PLs have felt the effects of the economic downturn, the Top 100 continue to respond to their customers’ needs and rise to the logistical challenges that today’s food organizations face.”
This year, Food Logistics added 15 new companies to the list, for a total of 100 service providers. The magazine’s editorial team reviewed nominations from end users and solution providers for the final list.
Ryder’s Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) business segment provides comprehensive supply chain management services that include network design, distribution management, transportation management, dedicated contract carriage, and reverse logistics. In 2010, Ryder significantly enhanced its capabilities in the food and beverage sector with the acquisition of Total Logistic Control (TLC), a Michigan-based third-party logistics provider. Through the acquisition of TLC, Ryder gained 34 facilities representing 10.6 million square feet of dry and temperature-controlled warehousing space, and extensive packaging capabilities. Now doing business as Ryder’s CPG industry group, TLC has also consistently placed in Food Logistics magazine’s Top 3PL ranking.
Commenting on the recognition from Food Logistics, Ryder’s Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Packaged Goods for Supply Chain Solutions, Darin Cooprider, said, “Logistics networks in the food and packaged goods sector have a unique set of requirements – from FDA regulations to packaging specifications and point-of-sale promotions. Ryder is honored to be recognized in this industry leading ranking for helping our clients navigate through these requirements and ultimately achieve peak performance in their supply chain.”
The Top 100 3PLs will be featured in the cover story of the July/August issue of Food Logistics, as well as online at www.foodlogistics.com.
