Dutch Government: Netherlands to be Testing Ground for Self Driving Vehicles
Ok. This is tooting my own horn a bit, as the article is mine, but I am really excited by this announcement. I’m Dutch and love Logistics Innovations, so there you have it. Self-driving vehicles can have a very positive effect on various levels. They can increase safety and driving efficiency, and decrease the density of the traffic on the roads. Computers can be set to drive in “Green” mode as well, minimizing the negative effects that fuel powered vehicles have on the environment.

The impact of 3D printing on the manufacturing and logistics sector
Darren Travers discusses the impact of 3D printing on the logistics sector. Should logistics providers create 3D printing centers that specialize in JIT printing and storing of blue prints for parts? The technology is still very much under development and I have not heard of a logistics provider actually offering this service as a viable product. Time will tell.

Convenient delivery vs. on-demand delivery
Dan Reis discusses the difference between same-day delivery, which has become very popular in 2014 (on-demand) and a slower delivery service, but one that is affordable and on time (convenient). I wrote a blog post on this myself in January of last year called Same Day? Right on Time Delivery!

La’Zooz: The Decentralized, Crypto-Alternative to Uber
The second article this week on something Uberish. This article by Nathan Schneider argues in favor of a new Uber like concept which is not owned by anybody. It’s a discussion similar to the ones I’ve been reading this past week on Facebook and whether being on Facebook is wise or not from a privacy point of view . Nathan argues that if there is one company that holds vast quantities of, in this case, transportation data and becomes near monopolistic in a market, this can be scary.
