MEMPHIS, Tenn., Mar. 1, 2012—FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) is once again among the top ten most admired companies in the world, according to a survey published in FORTUNE magazine.
The annual “World’s Most Admired Companies” report released today listed FedEx as the #6 ranked company, up two positions from the organization’s rank in 2011. The survey measures nine attributes related to financial performance and corporate reputation.
“The commitment and dedication of the 290,000 FedEx team members around the world has once again earned FedEx the honor of being included on the FORTUNE Most Admired Companies list,” said Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and chief executive officer, FedEx Corp. “FedEx prides itself in being a responsible employer, caring neighbor and steadfastly committed to excellent customer service and we credit these attributes in allowing us this recognition.”
Since 2001, FedEx has ranked among the top 20 in the FORTUNE Most Admired Companies list. FedEx also earned accolades for its reputation and culture among numerous regional rankings throughout the world. Most recently, the Great Place to Work Institute named FedEx Express as one of the top five global companies to work for in its inaugural ranking of the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces. FedEx was selected for the recognition from among the 350 multinational companies in 45 countries that were included in Great Place to Work lists from around the world in 2010 and 2011.
The FORTUNE/Hay Group study compiles its data from approximately 1,400 companies: the Fortune 1,000 (the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue), non-U.S. companies in Fortune’s Global 500 database with revenue of $10 billion or more and the top foreign companies operating in the U.S. These 1,400 companies are then sorted by industry; the 15 largest for each international industry and the 10 largest for each U.S. industry are then selected to be surveyed. A total of 698 companies from 32 countries were surveyed.
To arrive at the top 50 Most Admired Companies overall, the Hay Group asked 3,855 executives, directors, and securities analysts who had responded to the industry surveys to select the 10 companies they admired most. They chose from a list made up of the companies that ranked in the top 25% in last year’s surveys, plus those that finished in the top 20% of their industry. Anyone could vote for any company in any industry.
Hay Group, which has conducted the research for the World’s Most Admired Companies list since 1997 and for America’s Most Admired Companies since 2001, is a global management consulting firm. For information about Hay Group’s services, go to haygroup.com
