DB Schenker Logistics serves automotive supplier AGC in Serbia

Storage and delivery of glass components for the Fiat production plant

DBSCHENKER125(Berlin/Belgrade/Vienna, 23 January 2013) DB Schenker Logistics has opened a new warehouse in Kragujevac in Serbia, specializing on logistics services for suppliers of the Fiat plant close-by. The first customer has become AGC Automotive Europe, a supplier of glass components, which is working with DB Schenker also in Slovakia at deliveries for Hyundai Kia Automotive Group and in Bremen at deliveries for Daimler. The warehouse in Kragujevac is located only seven kilometers from the Fiat plant and has the status of a bonded warehouse, connected customs-wise to Fiat’s free trade zone. Operations are fully controlled by DB Schenker’s own production supply system which has been developed for supplier projects in the automotive industry. The glass components of AGC Automotive Europe are stored in the warehouse and then shuttled to the plant just in time according to the production demand. DB Schenker offers an EDI data flow for AGC in this project.

Luc Tassignon, European Logistics Flows Coordinator of AGC, says: “The partnership between DB Schenker and AGC in Serbia became a successful story thanks to a strong co-operation between both parties, in a particularly difficult project. Only six months before starting the operations, the decision was taken to open a sub-contracted warehouse. Despite the very short period, we achieved unexpectedly good results on objectives in a very complete project with customs clearance topics, warehousing, EDI links and re-deliveries to Fiat. Moreover, this partnership also consists of a full integration of DB Schenker in AGC’s warehouse management system. Those results confirm the professionalism AGC was expecting from DB Schenker.“

By launching this project, DB Schenker has put another important step in strengthening its service portfolio in Serbia. Neven Marcesku, Managing Director of Schenker d.o.o., Belgrade comments: “Contract logistics is an attractive growth market and the new business with a customer like AGC Automotive Europe is very important for us. It’s not only confirmation of our global strategy in the field of automotive logistics but also confirmation of our active approach to the Serbian logistics market.”
In Kragujevac, DB Schenker offers warehousing space for further automotive suppliers engaged in the Fiat production. “We are very confident that we will be delivering solutions to further customers in Kragujevac soon,“ Marcesku says.
