Schenker Deutschland AG is busy preparing the accommodations for Germany’s athletes and transporting bags and equipment for some 150 disabled athletes to the Paralympic Games in London (Frankfurt am Main/London, August 27, 2012) After the Games is before the Games, and not only in London, the host city for the XIV Paralympic Games (August 29 through September 9, 2012). The work of logistics experts at Schenker Deutschland AG also continues apace; even before the 2012 Olympic Games had finished, modification work was being carried out ahead of the Paralympics.

For the first time athletes on the German team competing at the Summer Paralympic Games will stay in the same accommodations that were used by the German Olympic team. “Our job is to help make sure that the German accommodations are fully accessible to disabled athletes at the Paralympics. As official co-partner of the German Olympics teams we are supporting the modification work by providing a full range of logistics and transport services,” says Christian Schultze, head of DB SCHENKERsportevents at Schenker Deutschland AG. This is the first time at the Summer Games that the same building will be used on a staggered basis by able-bodied and disabled athletes alike. “It is vital therefore that the modifications are completed efficiently and on time,” says Christian Schultze.

By order of the National Paralympic Committee Germany (Deutscher Behindertensportverband) DB Schenker Logistics is also responsible for the smooth transportation of multiple tons of sports equipment. This includes the official team uniforms for some 150 German athletes as well as medical equipment for physicians and physical therapists. “Schenker Deutschland AG is a professional and reliable partner to have at your side. Schenker is supporting us by supplying a full range of logistics services to give our athletes the best possible conditions under which to compete,” says Frank-Thomas Hartleb, Director of Sports for the National Paralympic Committee Germany.

DB Schenker Logistics has a longstanding commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic movement. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and DB Schenker have been working together successfully since the Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004. In 2009 DB Schenker was appointed by the IPC to be the partner providing logistics, forwarding and customs clearance services. As part of the agreement, which runs until 2013, the sports logistics experts at DB Schenker will not only be working alongside the IPC at the Paralympic Games, but will also be responsible for the smooth running of other Paralympic sporting events too.
