The interest in Sustainability is ever increasing. Supply Chains are being scrutinized and criticized for not being sustainable or socially responsible. People want biological food, green energy, and electrical cars. Dutch designer Dave Hakkens has developed a concept that would fit perfectly in a sustainable lifestyle.
Don’t Throw Away. Re-use!
You probably also have that drawer which is filled with old mobile phones. Dave Hakkens has designed a new smartphone that will not end up in that drawer: the Phonebloks. The idea behind Phonebloks is simple and brilliant. The phone is literally built up out of functional blocks that can be replaced when broken, or out of date. Battery, screen, camera, memory, processor, speakers, all modular!
Buy What Floats Your Boat
Like taking pictures? Buy the advanced high definition camera block by Canon or Nikon. Like music? Buy the booming speaker block made by Bose or KEF. New and faster CPU on the market? Buy a new CPU block. Third parties could produce new parts, and even design new functions to incorporate in your phone.
We throw away a lot of electronic equipment each year, and Hakkens wants to do something about it. As his video below starts out: “Every day we throw away millions of electronic devices because they get old and become worn out, but usually it’s only one of the components that causes the problem. The rest of the device works fine but is needlessly thrown away. Electronic devices are not designed to last.” Watch the video below to see more about this concept.
Great idea and very interesting concept. I wonder if there are companies that are already getting ready to jump on this, or if we will see this on one of the crowdfunding platforms…
