The Does LogisticsMatter? Podcast is all about trends and innovations in supply chain and logistics. This episode features Radu Palamariu, Managing Director Europe and the Asia Pacific at Alcott Global.
Working in Supply Chain, Buzzwords, and Attracting Talent
Supply chain and logistics companies have a more traditional approach to work than other industries. There is much more micro-management and a focus on hours in the office instead of focusing on output, instead of a focus on output, giving employees more flexibility when working remotely. If the pandemic has done one thing it has changed the way we work, even in supply chain and logistics!
Another future of work trend is robotics. The number of robots in warehouses, doing tasks like (un)loading, putaway, or orderpicking is increasing. And then there is AI and machine learning, software robots taking over certain tasks. Will we all be out of work soon? According to Radu we don’t have to worry. Some jobs will eventually disappear, but it will be the jobs we don’t really want any way. The role of humans will evolve, like it has evolved in the first industrial revolution.
There are many buzzwords going around about the current state and future state of work. Terms like The Great Resignation and Quiet Quitting are some of them. Are these real issues, or just buzz words? Listen to the podcast to find out.
Radu also speaks about what the most imporant skills are you need to be succesfull in supply chain now, and in the future. Often we place an emphasis on the hard skills that are needed for a job, but soft skills, like communication, building networks, creating partnerships are much more important. Those skills are not taught in schools.
With the future of work in mind, how can supply chain and logistics companies attracht new talent? One of the most important things they should do, according to Radu, is tell your story!
