Carrier Lands on “Best Fleets to Drive For” List for Second Consecutive Year
GREEN BAY, Wis. – February 16, 2011 – Today, Schneider National, Inc. revealed it has been recognized as one of the top 20 workplaces for company drivers and owner-operators in North America by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA). This is the second year in a row that Schneider earned a spot on TCA’s Best Fleets to Drive For list.
To be eligible for this distinction, fleets had to be nominated by at least one of their drivers (company or owner-operators). CarriersEdge, an independent organization, surveyed the nominated fleets, compiled research data and evaluated each carrier on the range, depth and overall effectiveness of its driver programs. Fleets were evaluated on the following attributes:
• Total compensation package – including base pay, bonuses, vacation and sick day allotment
• Health benefits and pension plans
• Professional development (training, coaching programs, etc.), career path/advancement opportunities, team building and driver community-development activities
• Commitment to employee personal growth, including work/life balance, driver family support and employee-directed charitable contributions
• Commitment to continuous improvement, including dispute resolution processes and inclusion of driver feedback in policymaking
• Annual driver turnover rate and efforts to improve
• Fleet safety record
“There are thousands of trucking companies in the United States and Canada, and 20,000 of those compete regularly with Schneider National,” says Mike Hinz, vice president, Schneider National. “To be recognized as a top 20 within these ranks is something we are truly proud of.”
Kurt Schreiner, who has been driving with Schneider for four years, isn’t surprised to learn his company once again made the cut. “Out on the road, you hear a lot of horror stories about drivers who wait days for a load or have weeks with hardly any miles. That’s not Schneider. With a company this strong and stable, anyone with a good work ethic is going to earn a consistent, solid income. I also appreciate the benefit package and how sincerely they care about their drivers, but what it really comes down to is this: Can I earn a good living out here? And with Schneider, the answer is yes.”
Schneider bases company driver pay on experience level, tenure and performance. Owner-operators leased with Schneider can choose between percent-of-revenue or mileage-based contracts. Bonuses are available based on driver performance against operational metrics for fuel, customer service and safety – another topic that resonates with Schreiner.
“I am so impressed with how seriously Schneider takes safety,” he states. “They walk the walk when they talk about safety, and that’s very important to me.”
According to Hinz, the drivers themselves are a large part of the reason the company has found itself on this prestigious list for two years running. “Hands down, our drivers are the best in the industry. These true professionals live out our core values of safety, integrity, respect and excellence in the way they live their lives – both on the road and off. With these men and women behind the wheel, it’s no surprise to me that we have achieved the honor of being named a Best Fleet to Drive For.”
Schneider employs drivers and owner-operators in its Van (Regional and OTR), Expedited (Teams), Dedicated, Bulk (Tanker) and Intermodal divisions. To learn more about driving positions and benefits at Schneider National, please visit www.schneiderjobs.com or call 1-800-44-PRIDE (1-800-447-7433).
