La Palette Rouge has won the 2012 SCALA Fresh Connection Supply Chain Competition.
The palette pool operator topped the board at the UK Grand Final, claiming victory with an impressive 34% return of investment.
John Salsbury, LPR Operations Manager stated: “The whole team are over the moon to have won. As a business we strive to be the best at everything we do, so to come first amongst such strong competition reflects well on all involved at LPR. All being well, we can enjoy our trip to the global finals and bring the title back to the UK”.
Other prizes on the day included Top Manufacturer, awarded to the Jordans & Ryvita team, and narrowly missed by Kraft and Kimberly-Clark who both performed strongly throughout all rounds. Top Retailer was given to ASDA, who fought off tough competition from Tesco Direct and Marks and Spencer, all who were new to the Fresh Connection this year. Best Sustainable Performance was awarded to Mars UK, the 2011 Fresh Connection winners, who thought carefully about their supply chains environmental impact and came out with the lowest carbon footprint amongst all teams.
During the Final, the participants were also entertained by interesting industry talks from Neil Healey Head of National Accounts at Toyota Material Handling and Steve Agg Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, both sponsors of the training programme.
John Perry, SCALA Managing Director said: ‘Congratulations to LPR with an impressive win. It’s great to see a logistics service provider take the Fresh Connection crown. SCALA would like to thank sponsors from Toyota Material Handling, AEB, BiS Henderson and the CILT, and all the participants for making this a fantastic year.’
This year’s competition has been especially competitive with winning teams from both 2010 and 2011, Kraft and Mars, respectively striving for second victories.
Despite a lengthy delay caused by a software calculation problem, the feedback from the teams has been excellent with the majority looking to participate again next year.
LPR will now travel to Barcelona in September to take part in the Global Fresh Connection Final, competing against over 200 teams from major companies across the world.
