Kuehne + Nagel extends logistics capacities in Catalonia

Barcelona, October 28, 2010 – Kuehne + Nagel has opened a new facility in the Barcelona logistics area “ZAL”. It serves as transhipment platform for the Group’s growing activities in the field of international transport and as multi-user warehouse for its contract logistics customers.

Featuring 54 loading and unloading bays, site perimeter fencing, video surveillance and modern radio frequency systems, the new almost 16,000 sqm logistics platform ensures fast and secure freight handling and efficient processes. The new facility, which is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, complies with the latest safety regulations and environmental requirements including a designated area for the handling of hazardous goods. Currently 180 professionals are employed at the facility.

The Port of Barcelona logistics area “ZAL” provides excellent intermodal connections, with direct access to the port facilities and to the airport through a fast lane. Thanks to Kuehne + Nagel’s road groupage network, the new facility also is connected to more than 30 countries throughout Europe.

“The opening of this new facility in Catalonia is a further step in our strategy to extend our logistics activities and will increase our capability in providing customer-oriented services in the Barcelona area,” said Miguel Ambielle, Managing Director of the Spanish Kuehne + Nagel organisation.
