SCALA’s Fresh Connection increases University students commercial awareness
It’s not often that students are encouraged to spend money they don’t have but The University of Huddersfield is making an exception for its final-year business undergraduates with a logistics business programme devised by SCALA Consulting.
SCALA’s Fresh Connection is helping to equip the students for entry into work by testing them with real scenarios they may face in their future careers.
Devised by SCALA, experts in supply chain logistics, and used by world-leading organisations such as Mars, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever and Cadbury, the training programme teaches essential skills for the world of work.
Now in its third successful year at the university, SCALA’s Fresh Connection has been built into the Supply Chain Strategy module of the business course and the number of students involved has increased from 70 to 120.
At a time when graduate jobs are scarce, SCALA’s Fresh Connection is proving an invaluable training tool, providing an imaginative way of allowing students to learn through experience and enhancing their employability.
Jayne Hemmington, Logistics and Hospitality Management Lecturer at The University of Huddersfield, said:
“I believe that the Fresh Connection Supply Chain Programme provides our students with the single most valuable opportunity to learn as part of their undergraduate degree programme. The students have the chance to refine and develop key transferable skills such as team working, leadership, negotiation and influence, commercial awareness and analysis.”
SCALA’s Fresh Connection also gives undergraduates a chance to learn about tactical decisions and the wider strategy of business, teaching the importance of cooperation and collaborative relationships as well as competition. The idea is to increase their commercial awareness so that they can hit the ground running once they enter the marketplace.
The industry-leading training programme is open to schools as well as universities, and businesses can sign up to the on-line competition or in-house training courses.
