FedEx Offers Asia Pacific Customers Greater Connectivity with New International Express and Cargo Hub in China

FedEx signs an agreement to create a new logistics hub in Shanghai

FEDEX125HONG KONG, October 26, 2012 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, announced it has signed an agreement today with the Shanghai Airport (Group) Company Limited (SAA) to establish the new FedEx Shanghai International Express and Cargo Hub in China. With an investment of more than U.S. $100 million, the facility will enhance connectivity to the U.S. and Europe for FedEx customers in Asia Pacific and support global trade growth along these important trade lanes.

The 134,000-square-meter integrated FedEx facility is slated for completion in early 2017. It will be strategically located at Pudong International Airport (PVG Airport), one of the busiest airports in the world with its total cargo and mail throughput ranked number one in China for the last three consecutive years (2009-2011)[1]. The new FedEx facility will be able to process up to 36,000 documents and parcels per hour and meet expansion capabilities for the next 20 years and beyond.

When completed, the FedEx Shanghai International Express and Cargo Hub will boast an advanced sort system with capacity to sort up to 36,000 documents and packages per hour and will have a total of 59 truck docks. It will have a special on-site facilitation by the Chinese Immigration Authority and Shanghai Customs for efficient cargo clearance. The hub will also house the GSE (Ground Support Equipment) facility for FedEx equipment maintenance as well as the area for ULD (Unit Loading Device) staging.
