(Berlin, April 23, 2012) Deutsche Bahn is one of the major exhibitors at the redesigned Hannover Messe expo, which is taking place from April 23 to 27, 2012. This year’s expo unites eight nternational trade fairs under one roof. DB’s contribution falls under one of the expo’s key hemes: Metropolitan Solutions – Innovations for Urban Infrastructures.
Over half of the world’s population now lives in urban centers, and the number continues to rise. Issues associated with populations moving to urban areas, such as reducing pollutant emissions, preventing traffic jams and dealing with the shortage of space in city centers, require solutions that will hold up well into the future. DB offers sustainable mobility and logistics based on its extensive, international know-how.
“Thanks to our expertise in developing and operating transport networks, we are a trusted partner of the local authorities who contract for transportation services. Hannover Messe is our first stop for building and deepening our business relationships,” said Dr. Volker Kefer, Member of the Management Board of Deutsche Bahn responsible for Technology and Infrastructure, as the expo got under way today.
DB’s service provider network is represented at the expo by its DB Systel, DB Motor Vehicle Fleet and DB Services business units. An oversize plexiglass head, the “DB iPad Head,” showcases DB’s networked solutions at the booth. iPads are integrated into the DB Head, giving curious visitors an interactive glimpse of the service providers’ extensive product range.
DB Systel covers the full life cycle of IT and telecommunications solutions and is presenting “maid” (mobile assistant for information and data), an innovative platform for using tablet PCs and smartphones to inform and communicate with operations technicians and other mobile employees. DB Motor Vehicle Fleet is a leading fleet services provider in Germany and has offered trend-setting, environmentally friendly urban mobility products like its Flinkster carsharing program and Call a bike rental system for years. Plans call for increasing the number of electric cars used by Flinkster to ten percent of its entire fleet over the next two years. DB Services is one of Germany’s premier providers of industrial services and technical facility management. The business unit is presenting its premium product AIQS, which stands for “Active Industrial maintenance through Quality System service,” at the expo. AIQS uses defined quality standards to produce cost-cutting synergies, create clearly defined responsibilities and minimize hurdles for industrial customers.
DB Schenker is presenting the full range of its services. One of the few truly global logistics services providers, it is a one-stop shop for all modes of transportation, creating integrated solutions along the entire process chain.
Visitors can also learn about DB’s environmentally friendly Eco Solutions at the booth. DB International offers all-in-one custom solutions, ranging from highspeed projects to local transport projects for subways and city railways. The DB subsidiary, which operates worldwide, demonstrates its exceptional expertise by linking the strengths of each of the modes of transportation to create integrated transport solutions.
Dr. Volker Kefer, Board Member for Technology and Infrastructure, and other prominent panelists, took part in the expo’s first forum today, Metropolitan Solutions – Innovations for Urban Infrastructures. Kefer said that the Stuttgart 21 train station construction project “has changed the way major projects are built in Germany. Project management must grapple with a set of ever more complex and multi-layered requirements. In the future, creating acceptance and transparency throughout the entire process will also determine whether majorprojects are a success.”
