As Domestic Freight Market Recovers, OHL Invests

In response to the recent rebound in the domestic freight industry, OHL, the global supply chain management leader, is making key investments in North America and hiring top talent.

Doug Frank, a respected veteran of the industry, has been named Vice President of Shared Services, a position that puts him in charge of meeting needs of OHL’s transportation clients and managing relationships with a carrier partner base of more than 12,000.

Frank previously served as vice president of logistics shared services for Schneider Logistics, Inc. During his two decades at Schneider, Frank mastered many roles including director of purchasing, general manager of Canadian General Motors Service Parts Operations, general manager for retail and general manager of logistics shared services.

“Doug is a proven leader and expert in the North American Transportation marketplace,” said Greg Sanders, President OHL North American Transportation. “He brings a wealth of experience to our team and will be a key player as OHL responds to the rebounding economy by continuing to strengthen our domestic transportation services.”

The freight business has clearly made a major comeback in recent months. The Cass Freight Index, which is based on shipments of hundreds of clients of Cass Information Systems, a freight payment processer, indicates that February shipments were up 2.6 percent from the previous month and were up 11.4 percent from the year before. In addition, freight expenditures increased 35 percent year over year.

“Although the severe winter weather caused major delays in freight movements in the beginning of 2011, we have lately seen truck tonnage volumes rise, a clear indicator of a market bounce back,” Sanders said. “We have seen demand rise and are making key investments in strategy and people to prepare OHL for more growth. Doug Frank is a great example of such investments.”
