Situations like the fire at Moerdijk and the problem at Odfjel are causing increasingly severe and frequent checks to be carried out by the Labour Inspection. Since 1999, within the EU, the so-named Seveso II Directive is in force, which was implemented in the Netherlands by the Major Hazards Accident Decree.
