UK companies have been uniquely successful in that every team entering has qualified for the global competition rounds starting next week.
SCALA’s Fresh Connection One Day and Online events were a big success with Mars, Cadbury/Kraft, Futurmaster, SpecSavers and Kimberly-Clark emerging as the top teams.
Mars stormed ahead with an impressive 4.49% average ROI after just three rounds. In the one day events, they competed with Kimberly-Clark, Birds Eye, Norbert Dentressangle, WestMill Foods, Futurmaster, Borg Warner, Waitrose, Jordans and Ryvita. Norbert Dentressangle and Kimberly-Clark both performed extremely, with the former taking an early lead and the latter achieving a remarkable steady growth in ROI throughout the event. Supply chain solutions provider, Futurmaster achieved the highest single ROI of 6.41% in Round 3.
In parallel on-line events one of the Cadbury/Kraft came close to Mars but couldn’t quite catch them.
High-street optical retailers, SpecSavers and food retailers, Waitrose demonstrated good supply chain strategy and leadership by maintaining a positive ROI throughout all the rounds placing them 4th and 6th in the overall UK rankings.
Participants all really enjoyed the first rounds describing the simulation as compelling, addictive and enthralling to see how their decisions impacted on the financial profitability achieved.
The Fresh Connection supported by Toyota Materials Handling now moves onto the Global Rounds which become very dynamic in nature with Risk Management, Sustainability, Category Management, Demand Fluctuations, Supplier Issues and Collaboration being major considerations in achieving a successful supply chain strategy.
