Last week I came across a video of 3 trucks, each transporting a 54 meter long blades up a mountain in China. It is a sight to behold. The blades were installed in a windpark on Baoding Mountain in the Yunnan Province in China.
A Windpark on a Mountain
And why not? You just have to be bring the parts to the top. And that’s where it gets challenging. The largest part of these turbines are the blades. They are 52.4 meters long and weigh 80 tons. The trucks selected for the job were from Chinese truck manufacturer C&C. They are 6.9 meters long and weigh “only” 9.7 tons.
Twisting and Turning
As you can see in the video at the bottom of the post the blades are loaded on trailers that look to be around 18 meters long. On the back is a construction that allows the team to tilt the blade and turn it 360 degrees. That comes in handy when maneuvering the blades over narrow roads, under power lines and through small towns.
Around the 5 minute mark you can see the trucks working really hard to pull the giant blades up what looks like the final steep slope. The roads there are no longer asfalt, but sand and stones!
Have look at the video below to see the trucks in action:
