Robots in factories and warehouses
GE and Caterpillar have joined forces by investing in Clearpath Robotics, a startup focused on bringing self-driving vehicles to the factory floor.
This startup, which has been around since its founding out of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, CA, has been focused on research and development of robots that transport materials, pallets, and other items from one area of a warehouse or factory to another.

Driver-less trucks are coming closer
Self driving trucks have been seen driving around this blog already.
The demonstration in Europe shows that driver-less trucking is right around the corner. The primary remaining barriers are regulatory. We still need to create on- and off-ramps so human drivers can bring trucks to the freeways where highway autopilot can take over.

The Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2017
And Gartner give their view on trends as well. Not specifically related to logistics and supply chain, but technology in general.
“Gartner’s top 10 strategic technology trends for 2017 set the stage for the Intelligent Digital Mesh,” said David Cearley, vice president and Gartner Fellow. “The first three embrace ‘Intelligence Everywhere,’ how data science technologies and approaches are evolving to include advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence allowing the creation of intelligent physical and software-based systems that are programmed to learn and adapt. The next three trends focus on the digital world and how the physical and digital worlds are becoming more intertwined. The last four trends focus on the mesh of platforms and services needed to deliver the intelligent digital mesh.”
