Dachser Expands Logistics Centre

Kempten/Überherrn, 4 October 2010. The internationally operating logistics provider, Dachser, is expanding the warehouse at its Saarland logistics centre in Überherrn by 6,000 square metres. From January 2011, the warehouse will provide a total of 41,500 pallet spaces.

In response to the growing demand for contract logistics services, Dachser is investing in the expansion of its logistics centre at the Überherrn branch in the Saarland, Germany. On completion of construction work in December 2010, the facility will provide a total of 19,100 square metres of warehouse space. An additional 9,500 square metres is also being made available for truck parking and waiting zones. The investment volume amounts to EUR 4.3 million.

“The Saarland logistics centre with the integrated Eurohub Überherrn is an important gateway within Europe. From here, we can reach all destinations Europe-wide within just 24 to 48 hours,” says Stephan Hald. The experienced logistics manager took over as Überherrn branch manager on 1 October 2010. The branch handles over 76,000 consignments per month. An increasing number of these are for contract logistics customers: “Dachser’s Saarland logistics centre offers ample possibilities for providing supplementary services, so-called value-added services, such as quality controls, re-working or display building,” Hald explains. The Überherrn branch has a dedicated area of 1,000 square metres for this.

Dachser has been active in the Saarland for over 50 years. In Überherrn, the family enterprise currently employs a staff of 435. An additional 30 jobs are to be created over the medium term.

In 2009, the logistics provider generated total revenue of EUR 3.2 billion. 17,500 staff working in 306 profit centres worldwide handled 41.8 million consignments weighing a total of 29.4 million tonnes.
