LEED Gold certification for CEVA’s eco-sustainable warehouse in Dubai

Dubai, UAE, 12 October, 2011 – CEVA Logistics, one of the world’s leading supply chain companies, has announced that CEVA’s number four site, its eco-sustainable warehouse sited in Dubai, has received the prestigious LEED Gold certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is based on several criteria including sustainable sites, water efficiency, materials and resources, energy and atmosphere, indoor environmental quality and innovative design.CEVA’s number four site was developed by Gazeley and is a 100,000 sq m area located in Jebel Ali Free Zone: the multi-user facility serves customers operating in the Retail, Fashion and Consumer industries, managing on average 40,000 cubic meters of stock and handling inbound and outbound flows of 15,000 cubic meters of products every month. The area hosts two of CEVA’s warehouses; a 35,000 sq m controlled-temperature facility and a 27,000 sq m room temperature building.

John Gould, CEVA’s Managing Director in the Middle East, said: “CEVA has developed a strategy of excellent eco-sustainable initiatives in order to offer customers state of the art warehouses that combine high quality logistics performance which respect for the environment: we are very proud of achieving this important certification, because it is the proof that our building project is truly ‘green’. The pursuit of LEED rating means a significant investment in the initial design and construction to meet all the USGBC requirements, but it delivers significant savings due to lower operational costs and the more efficient use of resources that are typical of a LEED certified warehouse when compared to conventional buildings. Moreover a certified facility ensures a healthier environment and improved health and comfort for employees, crucial aspects in CEVA’s company culture, with positive effects on productivity. This is a clear recognition of our effort to offer excellent and cutting-edge integrated logistics services to our customers in this area.”

LEED is a points based system which allows the classification of buildings into four different levels according to the total points achieved: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum. CEVA achieved the LEED Gold certification which demonstrates that the facility not only met the entry requirements to apply for this rating, but is equipped with advanced and efficient eco-sustainable solutions that are able to reduce the impact of the warehouse on the environment.

LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. The certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building or community is designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health. The verification of compliance with LEED requirements is conducted by the independent non-profit Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) which includes a network of ISO compliant international certifying bodies ensuring the consistency, capacity and integrity of the LEED certification process.

At present there are 41 LEED certified projects in the United Arab Emirates, of which five are Platinum rated, 17 Gold, 16 Silver and three Certified. CEVA’s number four site is the first site to be certified using the new rating system LEED-NC v2009.
