FIFA’s project “Green Goal” is aimed at making the Women’s World Cup 2011 as environmentally friendly
Deutsche Post DHL handles the dispatch and delivery of tickets for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011. Over 100,000 ticket buyers receive their tickets by mail using Deutsche Post’s environmentally friendly GOGREEN service. As the official mail partner of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011, Deutsche Post delivers tickets both within Germany and internationally. The carbon emissions resulting from these shipments will be calculated and offset through acknowledged climate protection projects, with Deutsche Post assuming the costs to offset the CO2 emissions.
“The Women’s World Cup is going to be an exciting event and I’m happy that we’ll have the opportunity to employ our GOGREEN service to make this event more environmentally friendly,” said Rainer Wend, Head of Corporate Public Policy and Responsibility at Deutsche Post DHL.
“We try to reduce the impact on the environment”
“We have already sold more than 680,000 tickets, which, of course, need to be sent out to the fans. Mailing the tickets has an impact on the environment, and we try to reduce that impact as much as possible through these types of projects and partnerships. It puts us on the path toward making the World Cup a major sporting event that is environmentally friendly,” said Steffi Jones, President of the Organizing Committee of the World Cup.
Deutsche Post is an active sponsor of national-level soccer in Germany. Since 2009 the company – headquartered in Bonn, Germany – has partnered with the DFB (German Soccer Association), becoming an official premium partner of the German women’s national soccer team and top partner for the men’s DFB Cup. The company is also a “National Sponsor” of the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year. FIFA’s project “Green Goal” is aimed at making the Women’s World Cup 2011 as environmentally friendly as possible. Beyond the environmentally friendly GOGREEN service, FIFA is also tapping into renewable energies, using reusable cups and serving organic foods.
GOGREEN service can be combined with all of our products and services
Deutsche Post DHL’s GOGREEN service can be combined with all of our products and services for which CO2 emissions data can be fully calculated and offset. Emissions are offset by purchasing carbon credits for climate protection projects, providing both businesses and consumers with an opportunity to help protect the environment. GOGREEN methodology is reviewed and verified annually by the world’s leading independent certification organization, the Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) in Switzerland. Last year alone Deutsche Post DHL sent 1.7 billion items carbon neutral both within Germany and internationally, offsetting more than 82,000 metric tons of CO2 for our customers.
