JOPLIN, Mo. – November 14, 2012 – Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), today announced the winners of its October Drivers of the Month.
“We congratulate these drivers for their commitment to safety and for providing the highest levels of service to our customers,” said Saul Gonzalez, president of Con-way Truckload. “They have shown exemplary professionalism and could not be more deserving of this honor.”
The company has recognized the following drivers:
Company Driver of the Month: Rudy Graham
“Growing up on a farm and driving tractors made me realize I wanted to be a truck driver,” Rudy Graham said. Graham began his professional driving career in 1972 and joined the company in 2002. Graham has since driven more than one million miles with the company. “I have a love for driving across the country and seeing historic sites,” he recalled. Graham resides in Reading, Pa., with his wife Jacqueline. They have four children and eight grandchildren. When he is not behind the wheel, Graham enjoys refinishing old furniture with his wife.
Company Team of the Month: Daniel Haney and Michael Whisenhut
Daniel Haney and Michael Whisenhut, brothers-in-law from northwest Kentucky, come from trucking families. “This career allows us to follow in the family footsteps,” Whisenhut said. Enjoying the natural beauty of the changing seasons is their favorite aspect of driving. Haney resides in Hardinsburg, Ky., with his wife Katie and their three daughters. Whisenhut and his wife Laura live in Webster, Ky., with their three boys. Haney and Whisenhut fish, hunt and ride horses when they’re not on the road.
Contractor Driver of the Month: Alfred Nazzaro
“Be patient, keep your distance and get there safe,” Alfred Nazzaro advised. Nazzaro’s favorite part of driving is seeing the countryside scenery. Nazzaro started driving professionally in 2010 and joined the company in 2011. He resides in Oviedo, Fla., with his wife Carla, five children and 10 grandchildren. In his spare time, Nazzaro enjoys woodworking, hiking and camping.
Contractor Team of the Month: Robert and Cecilia Wallraven
Robert Wallraven began driving professionally in 1990. Cecilia, Robert’s wife, joined him in 1996. “I was the last trainee Robert had,” she recalled. As a team, the couple has driven 3.1 million miles since they joined Con-way Truckload in 1998. The married couple of 28 years resides in Clarksville, Tenn., and has five children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. While not on the road, Robert likes to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Cecilia enjoys writing poetry.
Regional Driver of the Month: Michael Harper
“I decided to become a truck driver because of the steady nature of the job and the beautiful scenery,” Michael Harper said. He began his professional driving career in 2004 and joined Con-way Truckload in 2008. Harper resides in Grand Blanc, Mich., and has a son and daughter. While home, Harper spends his time skiing and riding motorcycles.
The following 11 drivers achieved the significant career milestones of reaching one and two million miles driven during the month of October:
One million: Michael Beam of Lawndale, N.C.; Rick Bradshaw of St. Cloud, Fla.; Sandra Dixon of Jessup, Ga.; Sheri McPhee of Stewart, Tenn.; Larry Noble of Kansas City, Mo.; Steve Scroggins of Colt, Ark.; and Darrell Sumler of Granby, Mo.
Two million: Apolinar Guillen of Joplin, Mo.; Terry Halbert of Rogers, Ark.; Rene Ibarra of Duncan, Okla.; and Robert Myrick of Almo, Ky.
