Outstanding Individuals and Teams Honored for Their Exceptional Effort and Dedication
JOPLIN, Mo. – March 29, 2012 – Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), today announced the recipients of its Driver of the Month recognition for February 2012.
“We congratulate these drivers and thank them for their dedication and professionalism,” said Saul Gonzalez, chief operating officer, Con-way Truckload. “They have all shown exemplary commitment to the highest levels of safety and service for our customers, and they couldn’t be more deserving of this honor.”
The following drivers were recognized by the company:
Company Driver of the Month: James Latham
James Latham has been driving professionally for 15 years, and has driven more than 405,000 miles since joining Con-way Truckload in 2008. Latham’s experience has also made him a great student trainer for the company. “I like knowing that what I’m going to do today will be different from what I did the day before,” he says of what he likes about driving. Latham resides in Nixa, Mo., with his wife, Joni. Together they have four children.
Contractor Driver of the Month: Alvin Courte
Alvin Courte has been driving professionally for 17 years and since joining the company in 1996, he has driven more than 1.6 million miles. He believes that good trip planning is key to becoming a successful driver. Courte lives in Henderson, Texas, where he enjoys spending time with his wife of 58 years, Audrey, their son, Tony, and their grandsons Gavon and Cage.
Company Team of the Month: Clyde and Sheryl Nelson
Clyde and Sheryl Nelson, of Tulsa, Okla., say that team driving gives them the opportunity to see the countryside, without the responsibility of clocking in and out of an office each day. Clyde has been driving professionally since 1987 and joined the company in 1997, while Sheryl began her driving career in 2003. The Nelsons enjoy spending time with their three children and six grandchildren and take part in other hobbies like motorcycles and quilting.
Contractor Team of the Month: Brent and Jacqueline Michalski
The Michalskis have far surpassed the million-miler mark, with more than 1.3 million miles driven since joining Con-way Truckload in 2004. Brent began driving professionally 20 years ago, while Jacqueline began her driving career in 1994. Their advice to drivers is to “be patient, keep your distance, and let the miles come to you.” Brent and Jackie have been married for 13 years and currently reside in Farnham, N.Y., with their daughter, Alicia.
Regional Driver of the Month: Paul Lojewski
Paul Lojewski was ready for a career change, and in 1989 he was recruited into professional driving. A former paramedic, Lojewski comments that driving has allowed him to be a “paid tourist.” When back home in Newburg, Mo., he switches to two wheels, having fun riding his motorcycle around town.
The following six drivers achieved the significant career milestones of one and two million miles driven during the month of February:
- One million: Daniel Giardiello of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; and Jack Tenney of Austintown, Ohio.
- Two million: Dan Allison of Laredo, Texas; Richard Cummins of Blaine, Wash.; Dennis Jennings of Ava, Mo.; and Juan Lopez of Galveston, Texas.
