United Arab Emirates, February 23, 2012 – TNT Express has been recognised in the Transport Safety category at the fourth Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) 2011 by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
TNT Express UAE has been awarded for its Road Safety Management System (RSMS). “As a transport company, TNT Express moves an average 4.7 million parcels, documents and pieces of freight and TNT moves as many packages as possible by road. We have a duty to ensure the management of vehicle standards, vehicle loading, driver training and driver working hours and rest periods are conducted in a manner that minimizes our exposure to inherent risks” said Mark Pell, Country General Manager, TNT Express UAE.
TNT Express has committed itself to ensuring effective and sufficient resources are in place to implement, maintain and enhance its road safety programmes to achieve continuous road safety improvements. TNT’s RSMS focus on sustainable solutions to improve road safety performance supports the TNT zero – tolerance approach towards road traffic fatalities and accidents. The RSMS builds on existing good practices and stakeholder experiences. It is supported by a global road safety charter, which confirms TNT’s commitment to minimise risks related to road traffic and accidents.
The RSMS implementation has resulted in reducing the BRTA (Blame worthy road traffic accident) and the economical driving contributed in reducing the CO2 emissions.
