Damco Transports Water Drainage Vehicles for Japan Aid to Thailand

Damco, one of the world’s leading third party logistics providers, was nominated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to transport ten drain pump vehicles from Japan to help alleviate the severe flooding in Thailand.

Damco shipped the vehicles from Yokohama Port to Laem Chabang Port. They will be used by the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Expert Team, which was dispatched to Thailand to help relieve the flood damage in the country.

“We are proud to be part of assisting Thailand and Japan,” said Eddy De Couto, Managing Director, Damco Japan. “The shipment had very specific needs. I was extremely pleased that we had ten 40 ft flat rack containers ready at Yokohama so quickly for the flood relief in seven inundated industrial estates in Thailand.”

The worst flooding in 50 years has resulted in the deaths of more than 500 people and swamped about 10,000 factories north of Bangkok as well as thousands of homes.
Damco coordinated among all parties to make sure the vehicles arrived on time on Nov. 18 for a ceremony arranged by the Government of Thailand. The event was attended by Seiji Kojima, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand and members of the JDR Expert Team, as well as Yongyuth Wichaidit, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Minister of Interior, and Dr. Wannarat Channukul, Minister of Industry.

After the ceremony, the vehicles departed for Ayudhaya Province, one of the worst-hit provinces.
