JOPLIN, Mo. – June 29, 2012 – Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), today announced the winners of its Drivers of the Month recognition for May 2012.
“These drivers have all shown exemplary commitment to the highest levels of safety and service for our customers, and they couldn’t be more deserving of this honor,” said Saul Gonzalez, chief operating officer, Con-way Truckload. “We congratulate and thank them for their dedication and professionalism.”
The following drivers were recognized by the company:
- Company Driver of the Month: Roberto Garcia, Bishop, Texas
Roberto Garcia has been driving professionally since 1982 and joined Con-way Truckload in 1996. As a child he was fascinated by his uncle’s big truck in the backyard. He started his career driving a small bobtail truck and worked his way up to 18 wheelers. Garcia resides in Bishop, Texas, with his children Chris, Selena and Victoria. While at home he enjoys spending his free time doing activities with his kids.
- Contractor Driver of the Month: Ricky Hilaire, Alamogordo, N.M.
Ricky Hilaire began his driving career in 1996 with the company and has been an owner-operator since 1997. Hilaire chose to become a truck driver after leaving the United States Air Force and loves experiencing the country through driving. The ability to visit his family members around the country is another benefit of the profession for him. Hilaire resides in Alamogordo, N.M., with his wife Teresa. They have five children and three grandchildren. While not on the road he enjoys woodworking, gardening and spending time relaxing with his family.
- Company Team of the Month: Michael and Loetta Ruyf, Joplin, Mo.
Mike Ruyf began driving professionally in 1984 after looking for a job that would allow him to do something he enjoyed and also did well. He and his wife Loetta both joined Con-way Truckload in 1999. They advise other drivers to slow down and know that deadlines can change, but accidents cannot. The Ruyfs reside in Joplin, Mo. They have two children and nine grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with their family who are understanding of their career choice and keep them up to date while on the road.
- Contractor Team of the Month: Cheyenne and Barbara Gory, Melvindale, Mich.
Cheyenne and Barbara Gory began driving for Con-way Truckload as owner-operators in 2011. Cheyenne has been driving professionally since 2006, while Barbara began her career in 2009. Cheyenne had experience working with heavy equipment and Barbara was eager to learn how to drive a truck and liked the idea of being together every day. The Gorys reside in Melvindale, Mich., and have been together 11 years and married for four years. Together they have five children and two grandchildren. Barbara enjoys reading, arts and crafts, figure skating and watching movies, while Cheyenne likes flying RC helicopters.
- Regional Driver of the Month: David Rogers, Cadillac, Mich.
David Rogers began his professional truck driving career in 2005 and joined the company in 2007. Rogers said he became a truck driver because it was a good employment opportunity and he enjoys the privacy and alone time it offers. Rogers advises other drivers to “always remember the Five Keys of Safety.” He resides in Cadillac, Mich., with his wife Mhervie and his daughter Danielle. While home he enjoys spending as much time with his family as possible.
The following six drivers achieved the significant career milestones of reaching one and two million miles driven during the month of May:
- One million: Fred and Louise Spires of Moody, Mo., and Gary DeLagrange of Walnut, Miss.
- Two million: Mike Ingle of Sorrento, Fla.; Billie Wainscott of El Paso, Texas; and Winford Cupples of Broken Arrow, Okla.
