Con-way Freight Honored for 2010 Fleet Safety by the California Trucking Association

Company Sweeps State Safety Awards, Receives Grand Trophy for Safety and Performance in the LTL/General Commodities Category

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – June 01, 2011

Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced that it has been recognized by the California Trucking Association (CTA) for outstanding fleet safety performance.

In May, the company was honored with two first-place safety awards in the local/short-haul over 4,000,000 miles and linehaul over 7,000,000 miles categories. Con-way Freight also received the CTA Board of Directors Grand Trophy for the best overall safety program and performance for companies with more than $10 million in gross revenue, while the company’s Regional Safety Manager Ed Boe was named Safety Professional of the Year.

“On behalf of our 3,000 members and the general motoring public, the California Trucking Association is proud to recognize Con-way Freight as a leader in safe fleet operations,” said Michael Shaw, executive director of external relations for the California Trucking Association. “We believe that with companies like Con-way Freight at the forefront, commerce in California will be fast, efficient and, most important, safe.”

The 2010 Fleet Safety Awards were open to all members of the California Trucking Association, and submissions were judged by an independent panel chosen from government agencies. The panel evaluated how each company organizes its safety programs, as well as training, driver supervision, preventive maintenance and overall record of accident reduction.

“These awards are a testament to the professionalism of our employees and their non-negotiable commitment to safety, which is our number one core value,” said W. Gregory Lehmkuhl, executive vice president, operations for Con-way Freight. “Our performance in California underscores this commitment and the efforts our people make every day to make the roadways safer for all of us.”
