Outstanding Individuals and Teams Honored for Their Exceptional Effort and Dedication
JOPLIN, Mo. – April 27, 2012 – Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced the winners of its Drivers of the Month recognition for March 2012.
“These drivers have all shown exemplary commitment to the highest levels of safety and service for our customers, and they couldn’t be more deserving of this honor,” said Saul Gonzalez, chief operating officer, Con-way Truckload. “We congratulate and thank them for their dedication and professionalism.”
The company has recognized the following drivers:
Company Driver of the Month: Ronald Barnes
Ronald Barnes grew up in the business of driving and heavy machinery. His father was a truck driver and he was brought up around large farm and construction equipment. He has driven professionally since 1984 and joined Con-way Truckload in 1998. Barnes lives in Colorado Springs, Colo., with his wife, Pardab, and loves to spend time working around the house and gardening when off the road.
Contractor Driver of the Month: Dennis Hastings
It is easy to see why Dennis Hastings has been successful, with more than 2.1 million miles driven since joining the company as a student in 1995. Hastings says, “Always conduct yourself as a professional. Remember that the way you look, act and talk is a reflection on the company and your fellow drivers.” He resides in Wyandotte, Okla., with his wife, Susie. When not on the road he enjoys hunting, fishing and training horses.
Company Team of the Month: Rene Tavarez and Felipe Chapina
Teammates Rene Tavarez and Felipe Chapina both grew up around trucks. Tavarez was a passenger in his father’s truck as a child and Chapina recalls watching trucks ride by his house, knowing then that he wanted a career in truck driving. Tavarez joined the company in 1998 and has driven more than 1.6 million miles. He resides in El Paso, Texas, with his wife, Yvonne, their son Ruben, and two grandchildren, Jada and Julius. Chapina began his driving career in 2006 and has driven more than 640,000 miles since joining Con-way Truckload. He also resides in El Paso, Texas, with his wife, Rosaura and their three children: Josephina, Adilene and Sofia.
Contractor Team of the Month: Arthur and Cynthia George
The Georges reside in Medway, Ohio. Art has driven professionally since 1990 and joined the company in 2000, while Cyndi began her professional driving career when she joined Con-way as a student in 2007. They attribute their success to having a positive attitude in everything they do. Art and Cyndi have three daughters and four grandsons. In their spare time they enjoy fishing, swimming, working around the house and taking cruises.
Regional Driver of the Month: Philo Morrison
Philo Morrison said when he first started looking for a job, driving was the best opportunity around and it would allow him to see the country. He has been in the trucking industry since 1972 and especially enjoys the freedom of the open road. Morrison lives in Ionia, Mich., with his wife of 38 years, Jeannette, and loves to spend time with his grandkids, going camping and fishing.
